Colby Covington Beats Jorge Masvidal Via Decision at UFC 272

In the main event of UFC 272 in Las Vegas, Colby Covington defeated Jorge Masvidal to get back on track.

The 34-year-old American has not fought since November, when he lost a unanimous decision to UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman at UFC 268.

With the victory, Covington maintained his chances of fighting Usman in a trilogy, strengthening his place as the top contender at 170 pounds.

Both fighters had some success on the ground, but Covington was able to successfully neutralize Masvidal with his wrestling on his route to a points victory.

Following the victory, the former interim champion demanded a rematch with Dustin Poirier, who defeated Conor McGregor for the second time in July.

Covington said: “I just took care of Miami Street Trash. Now I’ve got to take care of Louisiana *******

After a dominant performance Covington was given a unanimous verdict with scorecards of 49-46, 50-44 and 50-45.
