Christian Eriksen ‘in a good mood’ following on from cardiac arrest player’s agent says

After suffering a cardiac arrest in Denmark’s opening Euro 2020 match on Saturday, Christian Eriksen is ‘in a good mood’ and is ‘making jokes’ his agent said on Sunday.

Denmark’s match against Finland at the Parken Stadium was temporarily suspended as Eriksen received emergency CPR on the field before being taken to Rigshospitalet, a nearby hospital.

As reported by Sky Sports, the national team’s doctor Morten Boesen said the 29-year-old was “gone”, however the rapid response by medics and hospital staff meant that Eriksen was in stabilised. The midfielder later sent a message to his teammates before play resumed as Finland went onto win 1-0 in Copenhagen.

In the following match between Belgium and Russia, Romelu Lukaku dedicated his first goal in the away side’s 3-0 win in St Petersburg to his Inter Milan teammate.

Eriksen’s agent, Martin Schoots, spoke to Italian publication Gazzetta, stating that the player is in good spirits and is “happy” with the support from the entire football world.

“We spoke this morning [Sunday]. He was making jokes, he was in a good mood, I thought he was well,” Schoots said as quoted by Sky Sports.

“We all want to understand what happened to him, and he does too: the doctors are making some in-depth tests, but we’ll need some time.

“He was happy, because he understood how much love he has around him. He received messages from the whole world. And he was particularly struck by those in the Inter environment: not just his team-mates who spoke to him in their private chat, but also the fans.

“Christian won’t give up. Him, and his family, want to make sure that everybody receives their thanks. Half the world contacted us, everyone was worried. Now he only needs to rest, his wife and parents are with him.

“Even tomorrow [Monday], he will remain under observation, maybe Tuesday as well. But in any case he wants to support his team-mates against Belgium.”
