Christian Eriksen agrees in principle to join Manchester United

Christian Eriksen, a midfielder from Denmark, has reportedly agreed to join Manchester United for free transfer.

Short-term contract with Brentford for the 30-year-old was terminated last month.

Eriksen might have joined Thomas Frank’s team again, but the allure of playing for United was apparently too great.

For Eriksen, whose medical at Old Trafford is still pending, a three-year deal is being prepared.

Eriksen could be United and new manager Erik ten Hag’s second signing of the summer transfer window, with Feyenoord defender Tyrell Malacia undergoing a medical at Carrington ahead of his move.

After being released by Serie A club Inter Milan in January, the Dane returned to the English top division when he signed with Brentford.

He was forced to quit the Italian team after receiving an Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator (ICD) after experiencing a heart episode during Euro 2020. The Serie A does not permit the participation of players with ICDs.

Eriksen’s decision to not re-sign for The Bees is believed to have been difficult due to the opportunity offered to him by fellow Dane and Brentford manager Frank as well as the fact that his family enjoys living in London. However, he has now settled on United.

Tottenham Hotspur, where Eriksen played from 2013 to 2020, expressed interest in re-signing him but chose to concentrate on other players.
