Chris Rock has stated that he is not yet ready to speak about Will Smith: ‘I’m not talking about that until I get paid’

Rock revealed when he’ll finally talk about getting slapped by Will Smith at the 2021 Oscars while performing at the Fantasy Springs Resort-Casino in California on Friday.

“I’m OK, I have a whole show and I’m not talking about that until I get paid. Life is good. I got my hearing back,” Rock joked, per Deadline. Since phones are prohibited at his shows, no known footage was taken from his set.

Just days after the slap seen ‘round the world, Rock briefly discussed the incident at a sold-out show in Boston. “How was your weekend?” he started. “I don’t have a bunch of shit about what happened, so if you came to hear that, I have a whole show I wrote before this weekend. I’m still kind of processing what happened. So, at some point I’ll talk about that shit. And it will be serious and funny.”

During a handful of his appearances, the comic has also been serenaded with “fuck Will Smith” shouts. Rock chose to ignore the chants at first, but subsequently shut them down without more discussion.

Smith apologized to Rock in a written message released on social media the day following his Best Actor triumph and accompanying celebration. Although the comedian has not responded to the apology, his brother Tony has already declared that he does not accept it.

Smith has resigned from the Academy after the event, and he has been barred from attending the Oscars for the next ten years.
