Charles Oliveira fails to make weight for UFC 274, gets stripped off the title

Charles Oliveira, the former UFC lightweight champion, has had his title stripped after failing to meet the 155-pound weight limit for his fight this weekend.

At UFC 274, the Brazilian was set to defend his title against title challenger Justin Gaethje, however he weighed in half a pound too overweight.

Ironically, the champion tweeted only minutes before the weigh-ins that he had already made the weight.

Oliveira’s second effort to make the weight was likewise unsuccessful, therefore his lightweight title will be up for grabs in the main event of UFC 274.

Gaethje will become the next UFC lightweight champion if he wins the fight. Oliveira, on the other hand, will not be able to recapture his title.

Oliveira had a 10-fight winning run going following an incredible comeback to the lightweight division, when he defeated Michael Chandler to claim the title at UFC 262.

After a spectacular submission victory against Dustin Poirier, Charles went on to defend his title, climbing to number five in the men’s P4P rankings.
