Brazilian soccer legend Pelé dies at 82

According to the Associated Press, Brazilian soccer great Pelé passed away after a battle with colon cancer. He was 82.

Pelé, who is widely regarded as one of the all-time best players, is the only person to have contributed to Brazil’s national team winning three FIFA World Cups.

He had been receiving treatment for colon cancer since 2021, and last month, as his condition deteriorated, he was admitted to the hospital.

“Inspiration and love marked the journey of King Pelé, who peacefully passed away today,” reads a statement from his official Instagram page. “On his journey, Edson enchanted the world with his genius in sport, stopped a war, carried out social works all over the world and spread what he most believed to be the cure for all our problems: love. His message today becomes a legacy for future generations. Love, love and love, forever.”
