Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland insists Chelsea transfer link is ‘just rumours’

Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland has played down reports of a €175m move to Chelsea, describing links to the Champions League winners as “just rumours”.

As reported by Sky Sports earlier in July, Chelsea were understood to have made an informal player-plus-cash for the Norwegian talisman, which included a possible move to Germany for either Tammy Abraham or Callum Hudson-Odoi.

However, when speaking in Dortmund’s pre-season training camp in Switzerland as quoted by Sky Sports, Haaland cooled suggestions that he’ll be leaving the club.

“I don’t really have much to say about this,” Haaland said. “I have three years left on my contract and I’m enjoying my time here (at Dortmund).

“Before yesterday, I didn’t speak to my agent in one month – I think you have the answer there.

“I don’t really care too much about that. It’s a lot of money – I hope it’s just rumours to be honest because that’s a lot of money for a person!”

A source close to the news outlet also revealed that it is “mission impossible” for Chelsea to sign the 20-year-old this summer. Next summer, Haaland will be available for around £70m with a release clause in his current contract.

Thomas Tuchel’s side are interested in bolstering their options upfront with Timo Werner struggling in front of goal last season along with Olivier Giroud joining AC Milan earlier in July as well as uncertainty around Abraham’s future.
