Benzema named Uefa Champions League player of the season

Karim Benzema of Real Madrid has been named the Champions League player of the season.

Real Madrid defeated Liverpool 1-0 in the final, and the France international, 34, won the championship for the seventh time.

He has 15 goals in 12 Champions League games and is a strong contender for the Ballon d’Or this year.

Vinicius Jr, Benzema’s teammate who scored the game’s sole goal, has been named the tournament’s young player of the season.

In the 2021-22 season, the 21-year-old scored four goals and added six assists.

Real midfielder Luka Modric and goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois, who was named man of the match in Paris, join the two on the Champions League squad of the season.

Runners-up Liverpool are represented by four players: Trent Alexander-Arnold, Virgil van Dijk, Andy Robertson, and Fabinho, who are all defenders.

Kylian Mbappe of Paris Saint-Germain, Kevin de Bruyne of Manchester City, and Antonio Rudiger of Chelsea round out the team of the season.
