Will Ferrell’s outfit from the 2003 Christmas film Elf recently sold for over $300,000 at a Hollywood memorabilia auction.
According to TMZ, the auction took place in the United Kingdom at the Prop Store Entertainment Memorabilia auction. While Ferrell’s costume was estimated to fetch between $27,116 and $41,000, the winning bidder, who wishes to stay unknown, paid $296,702.66 for it.
Ferrell recently revealed that he turned down a $29 million offer to reprise his part as “Buddy the Elf” in a sequel to the Christmas comedy.
“I would have had to promote the movie from an honest place, which would’ve been, like, ‘Oh no, it’s not good. I just couldn’t turn down that much money,’” the 54-year-old actor told the Hollywood Reporter. “And I thought, ‘Can I actually say those words? I don’t think I can, so I guess I can’t do the movie.’”
