Aston Villa goalkeeper Robin Olsen assaulted during Man City pitch invasion

After Manchester City won the Premier League title on Sunday, shocking footage of Aston Villa goalkeeper Robin Olsen being attacked by supporters during a pitch invasion has surfaced.

Villa boss Steven Gerrard replied “No” when asked if his players were all okay following the pitch invasion at the Etihad Stadium.

“My goalkeeper was attacked and I think those questions should go to Pep and Manchester City,” Gerrard, whose side were beaten 3-2 by the champions, told reporters in his post-match press conference. “We’ll go and check if he’s okay now.”

A statement posted by Man City shortly afterwards read: “Manchester City would like to sincerely apologise to Aston Villa goalkeeper Robin Olsen, who was assaulted after the final whistle at today’s match when fans entered the pitch.

“The Club has launched an immediate investigation and once identified, the individual responsible will be issued with an indefinite stadium ban.”
