On Twitter, this video of a Steve Lacy concert showing TikToker’s little familiarity with his song “Bad Habit” has gone viral.

Steve Lacy, a musician from the Bay Area, has long been a mainstay in the alternative and R&B scenes. As a result of the widespread use of TikTok, he is now achieving new heights of success as audio samples from his songs, such as Bad Habit, rise on the charts. On the Billboard Hot 100, the song Bad Habit particularly debuted at number two, trailing only Harry Styles’ As It Was, which likewise gained popularity on TikTok.

Over 470,000 videos on TikTok, a platform that promotes songs to create viral sound-bites, have used Lacy’s hit from his 2022 album, Gemini Rights.

The tweet in question depicts a crowded concertgoer scene from Steve Lacy’s ongoing 2022 tour. For people who can’t or don’t attend concerts, it’s typical for the singer to pause at key points in songs, such as hooks and other memorable passages, to allow the audience an opportunity to demonstrate how well they know the words.

The clip has an issue because many of the spectators only knew Steve Lacy from TikTok, where the hook for Bad Habit went viral. The crowd’s almost complete silence as the sound clip passed served as a demonstration of this.

When Lacy questioned the audience why they had stopped singing and again extended the microphone, he once more got a less-than-pleasant answer. The N Side musician handled the situation as best he could, laughed it off, and carried on until the clip came to a finish.
