According to reports, Barcelona striker Sergio Aguero is likely to retire from the sport

According to sources from Spain, Barcelona striker Sergio Aguero will announce his retirement from football during a press appearance next week.

Doctors had previously instructed the 33-year-old former Manchester City star to rest until the new year after he was diagnosed with a cardiac arrhythmia during Barca’s La Liga match against Alaves last month.

Due to chest pains, Aguero was taken off the pitch in the first half of the encounter at Camp Nou. Since joining the Blaugrana from City in the summer, he has only made five appearances. It appears that this will be his final performance.

Gerard Romero, a Spanish journalist and close friend of Aguero’s, stated in a tweet on Saturday afternoon that the Argentinian will retire from football with immediate effect owing to medical difficulties.

Fellow journalist Fabrizio Romano backed up Romero’s initial story on social media, writing: “The decision has been made, and Barcelona has been informed.” Next week, there will be a news conference in Barcelona to clarify the issue.’

In his brief time at Barcelona, Aguero may have only scored one goal, a late consolation in a 2-1 El Clasico defeat to Real Madrid.

His career, on the other hand, has been littered with goals.
