Arjen Robben has decided to retire from football after a brief second spell at his boyhood club Groningen in what the Dutchman has described as ‘a very difficult choice’.
The 37-year-old decided to hang his boots up for the second time after making a cameo at the Eredivisie side concluding an impressive 21-year career.
Robben made over 300 appearances in his career having starred for PSV Eindhoven, Chelsea, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich, winning a league title in every country he’s played in.
Beste voetbalvrienden,
Ik heb besloten om te stoppen met mijn actieve voetbalcarrière. Een heel moeilijke keuze. Ik wil iedereen bedanken voor alle hartverwarmende steun!

The winger’s most famous moment came in the 2013 Champions League final where he scored a last-minute winner for Bayern in an all-German clash against Borussia Dortmund at Wembley.
Along with a decorated club career, Robben was an inspiration for the Netherlands having scored 37 goals in 96 appearances for his national team. He had helped the Oranje reach the 2010 World Cup final in South Africa and achieve a third-place finish at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
