T-Pain reveals that he battled depression for years after Usher criticised his music

T-Pain has talked in detail about his fight with depression which first surfaced after Usher allegedly disregarded his music.

Speaking on “This is Pop”, a soon to be released Netflix docuseries, T-Pain revealed that his mental health was severely affected during a discussion with Usher.

It all started when a flight attendant on a plane heading to Los Angeles in 2013 woke up T-Pain, informing him that Usher wanted to have a word.

As quoted by the Los Angeles Times, Usher told T-Pain, “He was like, ‘Man, I wanna tell you something, man. You kinda f— up music.’ I chuckled a little bit. It was a nervous chuckle, but I chuckled. I didn’t understand. I thought he was joking at first, but then he was like, ‘Nah, man. You really f— up music for real singers.’”

T-Pain responded, “‘What did I do? I came out, and I used Auto-Tune.’ He’s like, ‘Yeah, you f— it up,’

“I’m like … ‘But I used it. I didn’t tell everyone else to start using it.’ That is the very moment — and I don’t even think I realized this for a long time — that’s the very moment that started a four-year depression for me.”
