Real Madrid have announced a “farewell” news conference scheduled for Thursday with reports that their long-serving captain Sergio Ramos will be leaving the club after 16 years.
Ramos joined Real in 2005 from Seville and his time in the Spanish capital has been a huge success having won five La Liga titles and four Champions League honours in this time.
The Spaniard, who was ruled out of his country’s Euro 2020 campaign with an injury, has been regarded as one of the best central defenders in recent years.
Not only has his leadership been instrumental in Real’s glory, he has also produced significant moments like his 93rd-minute equaliser in the 2014 Champions League final against rivals Atletico Madrid – a match that Real went onto win 4-1 after extra time.
It’s unknown as to where Ramos will be heading but he won’t be short of opportunities as a free agent this summer.
