Netflix are ready to put an end to people sharing their account details including their password with another person with tests in place to stop such practices.
This comes after a third of Netflix users are reportedly allowing other people to access their accounts. A message is now being sent to those that don’t have their own subscription to the on-demand platform stating, “If you don’t live with the owner of this account, you need your own account to keep watching.”
A Netflix spokesperson is quoted by Gammawire via Hypebeast saying that “this test is designed to help ensure that people using Netflix accounts are authorized to do so.”
With a library of films and TV shows, Netflix have recently raised their prices for a range of membership plans. With up to four profiles being able to share one account, it is unsurprising that people are finding different ways of avoiding subscriptions.
