According to vice-president Rafael Yuste, Barcelona is in discussion with Lionel Messi about joining the team once again.
With 672 goals in 778 games, the 35-year-old Argentine attacker leads Barcelona’s all-time scoring list. He left the Nou Camp in 2021 due to financial difficulties.
His two-year deal with Paris St-Germain expires this summer, and it’s believed that he would love to continue playing for the French team.
“Leo and his family know the affection I have for them,” Yuste said.
Two years ago, Messi and Barcelona agreed to a new contract with lower salaries, but it was conditional upon the club selling players in accordance with the new financial regulations.
His remarkable career at the club, which included four Champions League victories, ten La Liga championships, and six Ballon d’Or awards, came to an end when that did not occur in time.
“I participated in the negotiations which unfortunately did not lead to a certain result,” said Yuste.
“I’ve always had this thorn in my side that Leo couldn’t continue at our club.
“Messi knows how much we appreciate him. I would love for him to come back. We’re in contact, of course, with them.”
