Harry Kane becomes England’s all-time record scorer

Kane made history on Thursday night against Italy when he scored from the penalty spot to surpass Wayne Rooney as England’s all-time greatest scorer with 54 goals.

Interestingly, Kane has scored more goals than Rooney did in 39 less games. The 29-year-England old’s record also includes a menacing goal 79 seconds into his debut, a World Cup Golden Boot, and more than a goal per game in key tournament qualifiers.

 

Six Englishmen—Sir Bobby Charlton (49 goals), Gary Lineker (48), Jimmy Greaves (44) and Michael Owen (40)—have achieved 40 goal mark in international competition.

Kane stands out from the rest of this group because of how quickly he has scored goals, averaging one every 1.5 games. Only Greaves, who is productive, can surpass that with 1.3.

With 54 goals scored at a strike every 2.26 games, the ousted Rooney scored goals at a considerably slower rate than Kane.

 

With 120 goals in 197 appearances, Cristiano Ronaldo of Portugal is the leading scorer in the history of international football.

Six players below him have scored at least 80 goals: Ali Daei of Iran (109), Lionel Messi of Argentina (98), Mokhtar Dahari of Malaysia (89), Ferenc Puskas of Hungary and Spain (84), Sunil Chhetri of India (84) and Ali Mabkhout of the United Arab Emirates (84). (80).

With the exception of Puskas (a goal every 1.01 games) and Mabkhout, Kane outperforms all of those players with a goal per 1.5 games (every 1.34 games).
