After Bayern Munich sacked Julian Nagelsmann on Thursday night, the former Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel is in position to take over.

Nagelsmann, 35, lost his job as a result of a bad run of results that culminated in a 2-1 loss at Bayer Leverkusen on Sunday, costing Bayern the lead in the Bundesliga heading into the break.

The Bayern administration moved quickly to select Tuchel, 49, who has been unemployed since the club’s new American owners fired him as manager of Chelsea in September of last year.

According to reports, Tuchel has consented to join Bayern with immediate effect and there is a complete understanding between the two parties.

Tuchel will look to build on his accomplishments from his first campaign at Stamford Bridge, where he assumed over in January 2021 and led the Blues to the Champions League title the same season. In the 2021 championship game, his Chelsea team overcame Manchester City; ironically, Bayern will now play Pep Guardiola’s squad in the quarterfinals of this year’s league. In the semifinals, the victor of that match will take on either Real Madrid or Chelsea.

After been linked to the manager’s role at Tottenham in recent weeks, Tuchel’s impending appointment at the 32-time German champions puts an end to any hope of him returning to the dugout in the Premier League.
