On yet another historic night for the forward, Erling Haaland broke the record for most goals scored in a single season by a player of Manchester City.
The Norwegian scored five goals, including a hat-trick in the first half, as City hammered RB Leipzig 7-0 to advance to the Champions League’s round of eight.
In 36 games since joining City last summer, Haaland has scored 39 goals.
With City, he has surpassed Tommy Johnson’s 94-year record for the most goals in a season. And only March has passed.
“My super strength is scoring goals,” Haaland told BT Sport.
“A lot of it is being quick in the mind and trying to put it where the goalkeeper is not.
“I was so tired after my celebrations.”
Together with Luiz Adriano for Shakhtar Donetsk against BATE Borisov in 2014 and Lionel Messi for Barcelona against Bayer Leverkusen in 2012, his five goals against Leipzig tied the record for the most goals in a Champions League match.
Haaland, who is 22 years and 236 days old and 116 days younger than the previous record holder Kylian Mbappe, has now scored 33 goals in 25 Champions League appearances, making him the youngest player to do so.
