United, who won the League Cup to win its first title in six years, was destroyed by a Liverpool team that has had a mediocre season thus far.
For the Reds, Mohamed Salah, Darwin Nunez, and Cody Gakpo each scored twice, while Roberto Firmino added a seventh goal after coming off the bench.
With six of the seven goals coming in the second half, the 7-0 scoreline also matched United’s greatest loss and is the club’s biggest defeat in the Premier League era.
The Manchester team has lost three other games by scores of 0–7, and each of those losses occurred away from home.
