The official Big George Foreman: The Miraculous Story of the Once and Future Heavyweight Champion of the World trailer was released on Wednesday by Sony Pictures. The movie, which will be released in 2021, will center on Foreman’s rise to fame as one of sports’ most recognizable personalities, highlighting everything from his 1968 Olympic gold medal-winning fight to his legendary Rumble in the Jungle match with Muhammad Ali to his 1994 comeback, which led to him becoming the oldest world heavyweight champion in history.
In the George Tillman Jr.-directed film Big George Foreman, Khris Davis (Judas and the Black Messiah) plays the feature boxer.
Tillman Jr. told Deadline, “We went through an extensive search across the world to find someone who could channel George, and ultimately, Khris was the only one who could encapsulate his journey so effortlessly as he went from one of boxing’s most feared fighter to retirement only to achieve one of the most astonishing comebacks at age 45.”
The screenplay was co-written by Tillman and Frank Baldwin. Along with Forest Whitaker, who plays Foreman’s trainer and mentor Doc Broadus, Big George Foreman also stars Jasmine Mathews, Sullivan Jones, Lawrence Gilliard Jr., John Magaro, Sonja Sohn, and John Magaro.
