According to Deadline, a film adaptation of the video game Death Stranding is being created by Hideo Kojima’s Kojima Productions and Alex Lebovici’s Hammerstone Studios.
Lebovici’s production company, which recently enjoyed success with the unexpected horror blockbuster Barbarian, will provide financing for the Death Stranding movie. As the game’s creator, director, writer, and designer, Kojima will serve as a producer on the film, which will be Kojima Productions’ first live-action production. Although the plot’s specifics haven’t been made public, it is said to bring fresh ideas and characters. Although there is no associated writer or director at this time, development is already underway.
“I couldn’t be more excited about this new partnership with Hammerstone Studios,” said Kojima. “This is a pivotal moment for the franchise and I’m really looking forward to collaborating with them in bringing Death Stranding to the big screen.”
Following a catastrophic event known as the “Death Stranding,” the game follows courier Sam Porter Bridges, played by The Walking Dead actor Norman Reedus, as he reunites communities across the country. After the incident created a passageway between the living and the dead, the planet is depicted as being bleak. A PC release of Death Stranding came out less than a year after its PlayStation 4 debut. Later, the PlayStation 5 version of the game received an enhanced “Director’s Cut” update.
