At UFC 282 in Las Vegas, Paddy Pimblett defeated Jared Gordon by unanimous decision to secure his third victory in a year.
In a close lightweight co-main event, Pimblett, 27, was the busier striker and ultimately prevailed in the judges’ scorecards.
The victory, which follows triumphs at UFC London in March and July, caps a successful year for the well-liked Liverpudlian.
“Was that fight of the night or what? Who’s a hype train?” said Pimblett in the post-fight interview.
Pimblett has developed into one of the UFC’s biggest stars because to his successes in the ring and his outgoing personality.
Despite not being rated, his fight in the prestigious co-main event spot at a UFC numbered event demonstrates the star power the promotion sees in him.
The 34-year-old American Gordon was Pimblett’s most seasoned opponent in the UFC, and many commentators saw the fight as a serious test of his skills.
All three rounds were fiercely contested, despite the fact that the conclusion was unanimous.
Early on, Gordon outgrappled Pimblett with his left hook, and the British player responded with erratic combinations.
As the fight continued, Pimblett had a strong second round, landing several punches and leg kicks that caused him to raise his arms in the air while the audience screamed his name.
In the third round, Gordon advanced, holding Pimblett against the cage and scoring a takedown, but the British fighter finished the contest in the superior position while attempting a rear-naked choke.
