Banksy
The mysterious graffiti artist Banksy has now confirmed seven new projects that have sprouted throughout a war-torn Ukraine after presenting a mural in the village of Borodyanka.
Since last summer’s Great British Spraycation, in which the UK sensation applied his stencil comments at locations throughout British seaside towns, the series is the most recent collection of Banksy artworks to appear. The Art Newspaper reports that when three similar pieces were discovered at the beginning of November, rumors that Banksy might be in Ukraine began to circulate.
The nameless installations feature pictures of gymnasts performing handstands on piles of rubble with ribbons in their hands, spread throughout a variety of demolished buildings. Another depicts a man getting knocked to the ground during a judo battle by a youngster who has been compared to Vladimir Putin.
Other murals show a woman carrying a fire extinguisher while wearing hair curlers and a gas mask, as well as two kids using a metal tank trap as a seesaw.
Last year, Banksy, whose exact identity is still a subject of conjecture, sold his painting Game Changer, which glorifies nurses as superheroes, at renowned auction house Christie’s in London for an astounding £16.7 million in an effort to raise money for social and political causes.
