The Brooklyn Nets and Steve Nash are no longer associated.
The team sacked Nash, who took over as head coach in September 2020, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, who first broke the story early on Tuesday afternoon. The team and Nash, according to Shams Charania of the Athletic and a subsequent ESPN update, “agreed to part ways” in the future.
Nash also released a statement confirming his departure.
“A very heartfelt thanks to Joe and Clara Tsai along with Sean Marks for giving me the opportunity to coach the Brooklyn Nets,” Nash said. “It was an amazing experience with many challenges that I’m incredibly grateful for.”
Nash’s exit occurs at a difficult period for the organization, which is coping with Kyrie Irving’s off-court problems as well as its inability to live up to expectations.
Decision was mutual with Nets and Nash, per sources.
