Henry Cavill confirms his return as Superman

On Monday, Henry Cavill announced on Instagram that he would be playing Superman once more.

“A very small taste of what’s to come, my friends,” Cavill wrote in the caption. “The dawn of hope renewed. Thank you for your patience, it will be rewarded.”

Black Adam, which this past weekend became Dwayne Johnson’s largest domestic box office debut as a leading actor, included Cavill as the Man of Steel in the mid-credits scene. In 2017’s Justice League, Superman made his final appearance.

The Hollywood Reporter claims that Johnson pitched Cavill’s cameo to former DC film executive Walter Hamada, who rejected it on the grounds that he had his own vision for Superman. Pamela Abdy and Michael De Luca were appointed as Warner Bros.’ new film executives in July. When Johnson pitched his proposal to them, they approved it.

In order to avoid giving away Cavill’s identity, the Black Adam production crew filmed a Superman mid-credits scene without revealing his face. In the end, Cavill only recently finished filming the scene in London.

According to THR, “Cavill is expected to appear in at least one standalone Superman movie.” Both Man of Steel (2013) and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016), both directed by Zack Snyder, were his only solo outings.
