According to his management company, Anthony Joshua has agreed to WBC champion Tyson Fury’s demands for their heavyweight bout scheduled for December 3 and is “waiting for a response.”
Team Fury sent Joshua, 32, an offer that included a 60-40 pay split to the champion and a December date for the fight.
Although the fight was decided on Friday, the announcement was put off due to the Queen’s passing on Thursday.
Although the basic parameters have been agreed upon, Joshua has not yet signed a contract.
In a statement posted on Twitter and shared by Joshua, 258MGT said: “258 and Matchroom Boxing can confirm, on behalf of Anthony Joshua, that we accepted all terms presented to us by Fury’s team for a fight.”
After defeating Dillian Whyte in April, Fury, 34, announced his retirement. He later reaffirmed this decision last month before taking on former world champion Joshua in a social media video.
In their rematch in Saudi Arabia last month, Joshua was defeated by the Ukrainian Oleksandr Usyk, which was his third loss in his previous five fights.
If Joshua defeats Fury, there is a rematch clause with a 50-50 split, but the location of the December fight, should it go, has not yet been determined.
It has been suggested that it take place at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium, while it might potentially happen in Saudi Arabia or another Middle Eastern nation.
Although there are still obstacles to be cleared before the fight is finalized—both boxers are contracted to competing promoters and broadcasters—a key development this week was when two-time champion Joshua climbed to number six in the WBC rankings.
To contend for a world title, a boxer must be ranked among the top 15 athletes by all sanctioning bodies.
