Twitter starts testing an edit button

Twitter has now revealed that it has begun testing an Edit Tweet feature internally and has plans to expand the tests in the near future, following much rumor and general speculation regarding its likelihood.

The company said in a statement released on Thursday that “our team internally” is now taking part in the test. However, the test will be made available to Twitter Blue users in the upcoming weeks. Tweets can currently be edited “a few times in the 30 minutes” following their first sharing in the testing Edit Tweet feature.

When a tweet has been edited, it will display a symbol indicating that the tweet has undergone changes since being shared. With just one click, anyone may view a tweet’s history of edits.

Before being further expanded, the enlarged Twitter Blue phase of the test will start in just one country. Here’s what Twitter has to say about their hopes for Edit Tweet in terms of the justification for such a feature:

“We’re hoping that, with the availability of Edit Tweet, tweeting will feel more approachable and less stressful. You should be able to participate in the conversation in a way that makes sense to you, and we’ll keep working on ways that make it feel effortless to do just that.”
