Manchester United confirm Casemiro agreement in transfer worth up to £70m

Real Madrid and Manchester United have agreed to terms for the Brazilian midfielder Casemiro to join the Red Devils in a deal worth up to £70 million.

Since joining Real in 2013, the 30-year-old has won five Champions Leagues and three La Liga championships.

The base fee is £60 million plus £10 million in add-ons, and Casemiro will sign a four-year contract with an additional year’s option.

On Monday, United will host Liverpool at Old Trafford despite being last in the Premier League.

After fulling his transfer, Casemiro will become one of Manchester United’s highest-paid players and become the club’s fourth acquisition, joining midfielder Christian Eriksen, Feyenoord full-back Tyrell Malacia, and defender Lisandro Martinez.

In an effort to strengthen Erik ten Hag’s midfield, United have shifted their focus to Casemiro after negotiations to buy Adrien Rabiot from Juventus fell through due to the player’s demands.

The pursuit of Barcelona player Frenkie de Jong by Manchester United is almost probably over after this agreement.

The club admits it is highly improbable they will land De Jong and Casemiro in the same transfer window, although not fully ruling out the possibility of doing so at some point in the future.

Casemiro won’t be able to play in Monday’s match against Liverpool since the transfer is too late.
