Former Japanese Leader Shinzo Abe Dies After Being Shot While Giving Speech

 

 

The former Japanese prime minister Shinzo Abe was shot on Friday while campaigning, according to official broadcaster NHK.

 

According to Reuters, Shinzo Abe has passed away as a result of the incident. He was 67.

 

The event happened as Abe was giving a speech in front of the people in Nara. According to the fire department, the 67-year-old was injured and had cardiac arrest before being taken urgently to the hospital, according to NHK. Police reported that a shotgun-wielding attacker shot the former prime minister in the back. Authorities captured a man suspect who seemed to be in his 40s.

 

We are all grieved and shocked by the assassination of former Prime Minister Abe Shinzo, wrote Rahm Emanuel, the U.S. Ambassador to Japan, in a post on social media. Abe-san has been a superb leader for Japan and a steadfast partner of the United States. “The U.S. Government and American people are praying for the well-being of Abe-san, his family, and the people of Japan,” added Emanuel, who previously served as mayor of Chicago from 2011 to 2019.
