Killer Mike has released his first single as a solo artist in decade, titled “RUN,” for which he enlisted Young Thug and comedian Dave Chappelle.
The song, which was written and produced by No I.D., opens with a monologue by Chappelle and includes a verse from Thugger. It comes with a film shot and directed by Adrian Villagomez that shows Mike battling white fascists in a combat zone with an army of Black troops.
A banner that reads “Free Thug, Protect Black Art, Free Gunna” is displayed during Young Thug’s verse. In May, a 56-count grand jury indictment charging 28 people with allegedly conspiring to break the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) Act included both Thug and Gunna. Through their attorneys, both musicians have refuted the accusations leveled against them.
A soldier can be seen in another section of the “RUN” video sporting an armband that reads “Free YSL”—a reference to Thug’s record label and imprint, which the government has claimed is a “criminal street gang.”
