Following his departure from Arsenal, Lyon has re-signed Alexandre Lacazette on a free transfer.
Lacazette decided to return to Lyon last week, and the 31-year-old has now signed a contract with the Ligue 1 club until the summer of 2025, according to The Athletic.
The striker’s contract with Arsenal had expired, and he was permitted to go as a free agent. On Friday, the Premier League club confirmed his departure.
Lacazette joined Arsenal from Lyon, his hometown club, for a record fee of €60 million in the summer of 2017.
Lacazette scored 71 goals in 206 games during his five years in north London. In 2018-19, he had his finest scoring season, scoring 19 goals in 49 games.
Lacazette had his least productive season for Arsenal last season, scoring only six times in 36 games. It was the first season since 2012-13 that he did not score more than 10 goals.
Lacazette recorded 129 goals in 275 appearances for Lyon prior to joining Arsenal.
After being a part of the Ligue 1 club’s development system since 2003, he made his first-team debut in May 2010 under Claude Puel.
During his initial stay with Lyon, Lacazette also made his senior France debut, going on to gain 16 caps and score three goals.
Lacazette will depart Arsenal after winning the FA Cup in the 2019-20 season. Following the departure of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in the January transfer window earlier this year, he became the de facto club captain.
During the 2021-22 season, Lyon finished seventh in Ligue 1.
