House of the Dragon, the forthcoming Game of Thrones prequel series set to premiere later this year, has finally gotten its first teaser trailer.
The picture House of the Dragon, starring Paddy Considine, Matt Smith, Emma D’Arcy, and Olivia Cooke, is based on George R. R. Martin’s 2018 novel Fire & Blood. The new series will launch on Aug. 21, 2022, 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones and the Song of Ice and Fire epic trilogy it was based on. While Game of Thrones depicted the final Targaryens contending for the Iron Throne, House of the Dragon promised to depict the house’s harsh rule.
George R. R. Martin and Ryan J. Condal, who will also serve as an executive producer and co-showrunner alongside director Miguel Sapochnik, devised the new series. According to Variety, HBO handed the program a substantial budget, with each episode costing slightly under $20 million. By the time it reached its final season, Game of Thrones had cost HBO $15 million each episode.
