A new movie based on a childhood toy is coming to a theater near you soon. J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot production firm has partnered with Warner Bros. Pictures and Mattel to create a live-action action feature based on the Hot Wheels toy car line.
“Growing up, Hot Wheels were more than just cars, they were vehicles for our imaginations,” Peter Dodd, Warner Bros. vice president of production, said in a statement. “Today, we at Warner Bros. are thrilled to bring that imagination to the big screen with Robbie Brenner and the creative team at Mattel along with the ingenious minds of J.J. Abrams, Hannah Minghella and the team at Bad Robot.”
The cast, premise, and release date for the Hot Wheels film have yet to be confirmed. Hot Wheels, on the other hand, were initially released in 1968 and have been a fixture in the toy boxes of Gen Xers and subsequent generations ever since.
Mattel and Warner Bros. are also collaborating on a star-studded film based on the iconic Barbie doll, which will be released in 2023. Prepare to see more childhood toys on the big screen in the future. Mattel Films is working on films based on American Girl dolls, Major Matt Mason action figures, the Rock ‘Em Sock ‘Em Robots boxing toy, and even the card game Uno.
