Jim Carrey Reveals that He’s ‘Fairly Serious’ about Retiring from Movies

Jim Carrey discussed his retirement plans in a recent interview with Access Hollywood, according to Variety. The actor is now on a press tour in support of his new film Sonic the Hedgehog 2, which also stars Idris Elba, Shemar Moore, and others. He revealed that he is “fairly serious” about retiring from acting and that this might be his final part.

During the chat, Carrey revealed, “Well, I’m retiring. Yeah, probably. I’m being fairly serious.” He elaborated that unless a great script knocks on his door that inspires him and feels important enough for people to see, he will stay off the turf as he shared, “I’m taking a break.” Carrey explained that he enjoys his quiet life, even revels in “putting paint on canvas” and loves his spiritual life. He went on and added, “this is something you might never hear another celebrity say as long as time exists — I have enough. I’ve done enough. I am enough.”

This will not, however, be Carrey’s first extended break. Carrey’s return in 2020 with Sonic the Hedgehog was his first significant project since Dumb And Dumber To in 2014. In between these roles, he undertook additional work, appearing in independent films such as The Bad Batch and Dark Crimes. Carrey also appeared in his Showtime comedy series Kidding, which was cancelled after two seasons and 20 episodes. He has played Joe Biden in several episodes of Saturday Night Live.

Meanwhile, fans of the actor are speculating if this is indeed his final role or if he would take another extended absence before returning to the big screen.
