After Chris Rock and Will Smith’s altercation at the Academy Awards in 2022, ticket sales for the comedian’s forthcoming stand-up show have skyrocketed.
Will Smith sparked controversy, criticism, and praise when he smacked comedian Chris Rock on stage at the Oscars 2022, leaving both celebs and netizens split over his conduct. Smith’s reaction was an emotional outburst in response to Rock making a joke about an illness that his wife Jada Pinkett suffers from, as he subsequently confirmed in an apology.
Now, two days later, stories have appeared claiming that ticket sales for Chris Rock’s forthcoming stand-up concert have increased dramatically as a result of the event.
In his letter of apology posted on social media, the King Richard actor wrote that his behavior at the Academy Awards was “unacceptable and inexcusable,” but that a joke about Jada’s physical condition was too much for him to handle. Jada is afflicted with alopecia.
On Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, the comedian will appear at the Wilbur Theatre. Chris Rock and Kevin Hart will perform in the Only Headliners Allowed section of Chris Rock’s Ego Death World Tour later in New York and New Jersey. Tickpick recently revealed the same on their official Twitter account, writing, “We sold more tickets to see Chris Rock overnight than we did in the past month combined.”
