Real Madrid, the league leaders in La Liga, were defeated 4-0 by rivals Barcelona in the El Clasico.
Two goals from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang lead to Madrid’s biggest home defeat of the season, with goals from Ronald Araujo and Ferran Torres.
The outcome has little bearing on the fight for La Liga, but it does demonstrate how much Barcelona has progressed since appointing its former star Xavi earlier this season.
On 29 minutes, Aubameyang opened the scoring by heading home a cross from Dembele. Di Catalans promptly doubled their advantage as Araujo sprang high to head home a cornerkick from Dembele for 2-0.
Then, early in the second half, Torres completes a wonderful play before Aubameyang scores his second of the night for his first El Clasico appearance on 53 minutes.
Real Madrid will continue to lead La Liga with 66 points, nine ahead of Sevilla, who will finish second, but certainly will not be delighted to lose to their fiercest rivals.
Barcelona’s good record continues as they move back to third place, level on 54 points with Atletico Madrid, due to the fact that Barcelona still has a game in hand.
