The revenues from the sale of a new NFT project honoring the late comedian and actor Robin Williams will go toward mental health programs for low-income young people.
Artist Jesus Martinez and Robin’s son, Zak Williams, collaborated on the project. Martinez said in a statement that the artwork was created to demonstrate the “many ethnicities, colors, words, and forms of expression.” Martinez says he met Zak through a common acquaintance and the two have since formed a “great friendship” that would soon lead to a wider joint endeavor centered on charity and mental health.
On Martinez’s SuperRare profile, the NFT has been minted. The purpose, according to Williams, is to “amplify the universal messages” at the heart of his work, with earnings going to mental health programs for low-income adolescents as part of a collaboration with Bring Change to Mind (BC2M). The group’s efforts include media campaigns and youth-oriented activities aimed at eradicating the stigma and discrimination that frequently accompanies talks about mental health.
“All everyone feels is love, light, and happiness when we remember the legacy of Robin Williams,” Martinez said of his and Zak’s collaboration. “We must remember to take care of our mental health and cherish those human-to-human relationships.”
