Brentford midfielder Christian Eriksen returns to action in friendly match

Christian Eriksen made his first appearance since experiencing cardiac arrest in a closed-doors friendly against a Southend United XI on Monday.

Eriksen, an ex-Spurs midfielder, created a goal in Brentford’s 3-2 triumph.

After being released by Inter Milan, the Denmark international signed with Brentford last month.

Eriksen told BBC Sport last week that being able to restart his career after falling while playing at Euro 2020 last summer felt like a miracle.

Eriksen is working on his match fitness, and Brentford boss Thomas Frank sees the match against Southend as an important step in that process.

He last appeared in a competitive match for Denmark on June 12, 2021, at Euro 2020, when he fell on the field and required CPR before being rushed to the hospital.

An implantable cardioverter-defibrillator was then implanted in the Dane (ICD).

Eriksen’s Inter contract was mutually terminated in December since players wearing an ICD are unable to compete in Serie A.

The Premier League, on the other hand, does not follow the same rules.
