Tottenham won 3-2 against Leicester on Wednesday night as Steven Bergwijn came off the bench to score two goals in stoppage time.
Spurs had the better start, with Harry Kane having one attempt cleared off the line by Luke Thomas before hitting the crossbar with a close-range header from one of his side’s numerous corners.
Before Leicester grabbed the lead, Davinson Sanchez squandered a golden opportunity at the far post.
Patson Daka sprinted into the area and took advantage of Sergio Reguilon’s unwittingly passing him through on goal, chipping Hugo Lloris for a 24th-minute lead.
Leicester’s worries were calmed by the score until Tottenham found a way back into the game by counter-attacking. Marc Albrighton made a remarkable goalline clearance to deny Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg before Kane equalized.
Kane was sent through by Harry Winks’ quick thinking, and despite Caglar Soyuncu’s attempts to catch him out, the striker remained onside and turned onto his left foot before converting his 18th goal against his previous loan team via the post.
For much of the second half, Spurs were on top, with Leicester turning to Justin James off the bench, who returned from an 11-month injury layoff to warm acclaim from the fans.
The visitors’ play lacked a deadly blow, as Kane shot over from distance a couple of times with no choices around him.
Harvey Barnes’ entrance turned the game around for Leicester, as he connected up with James Maddison for a 75th-minute goal that was deflected in at the near-post.
Steven Bergwijn sliced home a goalmouth scramble five minutes into stoppage time, then latched onto a Kane ball to round the goalie and sneak in a dramatic winner only 60 seconds later.
