Andre Leon Talley, a Vogue legend, has died at the age of 73

 

 

André Leon Talley, a fashion legend, novelist, and former Vogue editor, died on Tuesday in a White Plains, New York hospital, according to TMZ. He was 73 years old at the time. David Vigliano, Talley’s literary agent, verified the story to USA Today. The cause of death has yet to be determined.

Talley began working at Vogue in the 1980s and left in 2013. He was born in Washington, D.C. and reared in North Carolina. Talley served as news director, creative director, and then editor at large for the publication throughout his stint there. Women’s Wear Daily, W, and the New York Times were among Talley’s clients. The prominent fashion writer graduated from Carolina Central University with a bachelor’s degree in French literature in 1970 and a master’s degree in French literature from Brown University in 1972.

Outside of journalism, Talley appeared in the 2008 film Sex and the City, Fox’s Empire, and Mariah Carey’s “Say Somethin'” music video with Snoop Dogg. He also served as a judge on the reality show America’s Next Top Model. The Gospel According to André, directed by Kate Novack, looked at the life and career of the fashion writer.

Talley’s book, The Chiffon Trenches, was published in 2020.
