Eminem, the award-winning hip hop singer and legend, became the latest celebrity to buy into the hype when he acquired a Bored Ape Yacht Club NFT for the first time.
On the OpenSea platform, he purchased the non-fungible token for 123.45 ether, or around $462,000, which he has subsequently put as his Twitter profile image.
This wasn’t, however, his first purchase from the NFT. Despite having only opened his OpenSea wallet a week ago, the rapper has already accumulated 22 NFTs under the handle Shady Holdings.
User GeeGaza, who sold Eminem the Bored Ape NFT, tweeted “I’m living in a simulation” after the transaction with the rap star.
In his multi-decade career, Eminem has won 15 Grammy awards, as well as the 2002 Academy Award for Best Original Song.
He joins other high-profile owners of the Bored Ape NFTs, including NBA champion Stephen Curry and celebrities Jimmy Fallon and Post Malone, who each paid $180,000 for one.
With a current floor price of 73.5 ether, or around $280,000 per, Bored Ape Yacht Club is one of the most popular NFT sets on OpenSea. For the first time in late January, its floor price topped that of CryptoPunks.
I still think @Eminem is destined to buy my @BoredApeYC one day. pic.twitter.com/JuoNdE446Q
