Spider-Man will return… in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Producer Amy Pascal has confirmed that Spider-Man: No Way Home will not be the final collaboration between Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures, as Tom Holland will continue to play the character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Pascal was a key figure in negotiating the game-changing collaboration between Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures.
Holland, it turns out, spoke too soon when he claimed he didn’t want to play Spider-Man into his 30s. Pascal confirmed that there will be additional Spider-Man movies in the MCU in an interview with Fandango:
“This is not the last movie that we are going to make with Marvel – [this is not] the last Spider-Man movie. We are getting ready to make the next Spider-Man movie with Tom Holland and Marvel, it just isn’t part of… we’re thinking of this as three films, and now we’re going to go onto the next three. This is not the last of our MCU movies.”
Holland recently stated that he was already considering a departure strategy for his role as Peter Parker, adding, “If I’m playing Spider-Man after I’m 30, I’ve done something wrong.” Pascal, it appears, is unconcerned about those plans, because she not only says that more Spider-Man films are in the works, but that they will constitute a new trilogy.
Pascal emphasizes the importance of the two companies agreeing to this relationship and their efforts to continue in the future for any fans who believe this is the end for Spider-Man in the MCU:
“Spider-Man is always very special and different from everything else, but I think the beautiful thing is you had two big corporations that decided to work together for the good of the story and the character, and I don’t think that’s always the spirit that you see. Yeah, working together and helping each other make things be better is a good model.”
