Manchester United have apparently struck a ‘deal’ with Ralf Ragnick to take over as interim manager, replacing Michael Carrick, who has been in control since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was sacked. Mauricio Pochettino was said to be in the running for the job, but it appears that the club has already made their selection.
In the days after Solskjaer’s dismissal, the Old Trafford hotseat has been the subject of heated discussion.
Pochettino appeared to be the most probable candidate to succeed him, but with similar issues plaguing several of the club’s managerial candidates, leaving PSG in the middle of the season has proven problematic.
The board had already said that they intended to select an interim manager to oversee the team for the remainder of the season.
Rangnick’s name has long been mentioned, and the newest rumours imply that a deal has been made with the Red Devils on both his short- and long-term duties.
The agreement, according to The Athletic, involves a six-month interim coaching contract followed by two years of consulting.
Rangnick has had a long career on and off the field, most recently serving as the Head of Sports and Development with Lokomotiv Moscow.
It’s now up to the Russian club to ratify the agreement, which would see Carrick hand over the keys to the German.
According to the report, he would not be able to take charge of Sunday’s match against Chelsea owing to work visa concerns.
