Britney Spears is no longer subject to a court-ordered conservatorship, which she has been under since 2008.
According to CNN, Judge Brenda Penny of the Los Angeles County Superior Court terminated the arrangement on Friday, the first court hearing after her father’s 13-year conservatorship was suspended in September.
Following her highly-publicized mental breakdown in 2008, Spears was placed under conservatorship. Andrew Wallet, who resigned from the position in 2019, was replaced as co-conservator by her father Jamie Spears. Jamie handled his daughter’s $60 million wealth until September when he was officially removed from guardianship. Bessemer Trust Co. was then added as a co-conservator with Jamie.
Spears rushed to Instagram shortly after the verdict was announced to thank her fans for their support, closing her message with an updated version of the iconic #FreeBritney hashtag that has characterized her conservatorship struggle.
“Good God I love my fans so much it’s crazy,” she wrote. “I think I’m gonna cry the rest of the day !!!! Best day ever … praise the Lord … can I get an Amen #FreedBritney.”
