A 65-year-old man was bit by a reticulated python whilst he was sitting on the toilet in his home in Graz, Austria, leaving him with minor injuries.
The victim is said to have felt a “pinch in the area of his genitals” prior to noticing a five-foot (1.6 metres) snake hiding away below the toilet bowl.
Sky News reports that the snake had worked its way into the toilet through a network of drains. This type of python, a constrictor native to Asia, can expand to 30ft (nine metres) in length.
“Shortly after he sat on the toilet the Graz resident – by his own account – felt a ‘pinch’ in the area of his genitals,” the police said in a statement as quoted by Sky News.
Local emergency services contacted a reptile expert who got rid of the snake from the toilet, which was cleaned and returned to its owner.
It’s also reported that the snake had belonged to a neighbour, a 24-year-old who owns 11 snakes. The prosecutors’ office has reported him of negligently causing bodily harm, the police continued.
